What The News Hasn't Told You About Donald Trump

So your Facebook feed is blowing up with politics, your Twitter feed is breaking news about the newest political scandal. But, where do these stories come from? And are they even true?

As millennials, we are more apt to check our social media than pick up a newspaper. And that’s okay! Save the trees. However, it is important to deviate false information from true information. There are thousands of news websites and forums that send out information. There are also trolls who create chaos just for fun. Some blogs make money by just the simple click of your mouse. They also create insane headlines so you’ll skip the content and share the headline. Always be skeptical of sources you’re reading. Cross-check to see if the information you’re reading is from a credible source. No,a tweet is not a credible source. Thats what is frustrating in the world today. We read or hear something and assume its true. Here are some facts that might settle your anxiety about President Donald Trump.

Trump is a racist.

FACT: Trump has actually appointed a black man for the position of Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. His name is Ben Carson. Also, Elaine L. Chao, an asian-american was tapped for Transportation Secretary. Also, he has thousands of employees who are of color that run his businesses. Remember the Celebrity Apprentice? It is a show created to give positions in Trump’s company to celebrities. There was a wide range of contestants including the one and only, Little Wayne, who was on Season 13 of Celebrity Apprentice. Recently, Trump's plan for his budget came out. He has not touched the immigration budget at all. Denying the government funds for green cards is not in his game plan. He is not messing with the immigration system as of right now.

Trump is apart of the Neo-Nazi, Totalitarian Regime.

FACT: While Trump says some very unconventional things, he is an extremely logical and organized leader. Hence, why he’s a billionaire business tycoon. He has never been quoted supporting white supremacy. In fact, he released an announcement saying, he doesn’t stand for this kind of behavior, and he does not support those groups. Look it up! The media can twist almost anything.

Trump is going to be a Dictator.

Fact: Trump is a conservative republican. How many of you can honestly say you know what that means? Luckily I payed attention in Politics class. A conservative republican believes in the conservation of our Constitution. Their philosophy is all about upholding the rights of our four fathers. They believe in protecting all of the amendments and protecting civil rights. So, maybe this is a good thing? Also, if Trump was trying to be a dictator, he couldn’t be. We have these things called the three branches of government. These three branches of government were set up by the First Continental Congress. They were meant to restrict the ability of a single leader to be a King, or in this case, a dictator.

These are just a few of the things you may have missed. Fake news can bury the real news. In this day and age how are we supposed to know what is real and what isn’t? The key is to be intuitive, skeptical, and vigilant. That doesn’t mean assume everything is false information, but take some time to inform yourself before you write a 500 word Facebook post. So calm down and “Don’t believe everything you read on the internet.”

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
