1. Goals that are set for the sole reason that everyone else is making them tend to be pressure filled, unrealistic and impulsive.
Those goals are less likely to be accomplished. Create and achieve a goal for you not just because it's New Year's.
2. Most goals that are set for new years are long-term goals.
For instance, "I want to be happy" or "I want to get in better shape." Both of those goals don’t mean anything without a long term plan. Gym memberships and therapy sessions receive most of their service after the new year. Although, most of them quit after a month or so in because they don’t see the results they wanted.
3. This is the time that people tend to be busiest.
Trying to form a new healthy habit in a busy schedule can add more stress. For most people when they are stressed they have a strict mentality. The mentality is “if this resolution is working into my schedule and I am seeing results I’ll continue, if not ill cut it out”. That mentality is harsh. The little successes that everyone should be focused on go unnoticed. Progress is the most important thing, not perfection.
