New year, new you?

As 2018 comes around the corner, everyone is excited to celebrate a "new" beginning. It's almost as if you feel like you can reinvent yourself during this time — and well, you can. New Year's resolutions are made and you seem to have a bit more motivation to become a better version of you when the years change. As we enter 2018, I would like to share with you some things you can remind yourself to better if you're unsure of what that resolution should be.

1. Be more kind.

We can all work on being generous to others. It is extremely easy to let your anger get the best of you in certain situations. When problems arise that don't sit easily with you, take a breather. Remind yourself that it is in this moment you are upset and sometimes you can say things out of impulse. Here's a secret if you didn't already know: being kind to others when they are not kind to you makes them feel bad for being mean!

2. Express your gratitude more often.

Studies have shown that the happiest people express their gratitude towards others often. Now honestly, this is the last thing I would expect to make me the happiest, but it makes sense. Making others feel good makes you feel good! So if you're ever having a really crappy day — pick up your phone and call your mom or dad, your siblings, grandparents, aunts or uncles, and let them know how much they mean to you or how thankful you are for them. It will make your day better as much as it'll make theirs.

3. Take care of yourself.

I think the most important thing you should include in your resolutions is to remember to take care of yourself — mentally and physically! Treat yourself out to your favorite food place, or take a trip to somewhere you've never been! Travel. Work out. Live your life to the fullest and don't dwell on things we can't change or control. Do what makes you happy and be who makes you the happiest. Life is extremely short to do nothing that isn't the best for YOU. Study hard, expand your mind. Express how you feel more often. Take a Zumba class or sing your heart out at karaoke nights with your friends. If you had a hard 2017, live your best life in 2018 and the rest of the years to come.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
