It's the beginning of a new year and to some, that thought may seem overwhelming or challenging. If you are like me at all, 2017 might not have exactly gone as planned. However, 2018 can be a comeback year, a new chance and new opportunity to make a change whether it’s really big or small

When most people think of New Years resolutions thoughts of eating healthy and joining and gym are typically the first that are brought up. And yes these are totally fine resolutions to have, it is never a bad idea to take care of your body and physical health. However, I think it just as appropriate to have resolutions towards your mental health and self-growth and sometimes these are pushed aside.

For some, there may be more room for personal growth from the inside. Maybe just going outside of one's comfort zone, traveling somewhere different, talking to new people and just venturing out. Not being afraid of who you really are and embracing your unique personality.

Laughing out loud at your own jokes and saying your opinion even though it may not be what everyone agrees with. Even just baby steps such as trying a weird new dish at a restaurant or sitting by somebody different in class. I know I’ve made some of my strongest connections just saying hi the stranger next to me. Just trying to be a braver, more fearless version of yourself is not a bad start to a happier year.

For others, this year you may want to focus more on yourself. Figure out what you need, what your goals are, and how you want to get there. It’s okay to want a selfish year, a year to put yourself as number one. Always putting yourself first and respecting what you need and deserve.

This doesn’t make you a jerk, or maybe it does, but who cares. You don't have to cut anyone out of your life, maybe just the toxic people who don’t quite fit into your new outlook anymore. The right people will respect that you are bettering yourself and will want to see you rise and will encourage you to follow your plan. Life seems easier when you make time to make your future self proud.

Try meditation or a yoga class. Keep a clean room and desk. Hang some pictures that make you happy and create an environment you can relax in. Get a planner and actually use it. Call your relatives. Go to class but go to that party with your friends too. Create a balance for yourself and a life you’re proud of.

Whatever your resolution is and whatever you decide to do or change in 2018, do it for you and do it to your fullest potential. You can’t fail but you can just keep trying harder. You have an entire 365 days to make this year count so get going!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
