8 New Year's Resolutions That You Can Actually Keep
Stocksnap

It's a new year once again. Here's to resolutions that we won't keep, like working out every day and only eating vegetables. Why commit yourself to resolutions that will never happen? The biggest changes in life start small. Here are small, but mighty, new year's resolutions that you can actually keep:

1. Be kind to others

Yes, people can be annoying sometimes. But sometimes you have to keep your cool and just be kind. They might be going through a rough time in their life and don’t know how to cope with the stress. Lend a helping hand and say to them “I am here for you.”

2. Stay away from drama

With the drama of school, work, politics, and the Kardashians, it’s easy to get swept up in the chaos. If someone is talking shit about someone, don’t reciprocate and do the same just to seem cool. No one likes a drama queen/king.

3. Try something new

If you're tired of the same old mundane routine in your life, try something new. Maybe take on a new hobby or do something that you've always wanted to do, like skydiving or traveling across the country.

4. Eat healthier

Eating healthy can be hard when we all are surrounded by tempting foods, like holiday leftovers and Grandma's homemade pie. However, when you're back at college, it's easier to eat healthy at the dining halls. With just one food swipe, you have a buffet of different foods. Skip the burgers and the french fries, and head over to the salad bar.

5. Be honest

In 2017, you were the person who always apologized for things you didn't do. You said that you were okay when you weren't okay. You let people step on you without you confronting them in return. You were trampled as a result.

Please, let 2018 be the year of honesty. If you have a problem with the way someone is treating you, speak up. You are not a sidewalk. You will not be spit on and stepped on any longer. Stand up and say something.

6. Do what you want to do

Don't let others make decisions for you. If you want to do something, do it. If you don't want to do something, don't do it. Don't let your peers force you to go to the nasty frat party. Say no. If you just want to stay in for a night and relax, do it. Please yourself and not others.

7. Be more positive

Being positive can be difficult in this world of negativity. However, don't always be so down on yourself. Don't immediately surrender when one guy you like doesn't like you back. Don't feel defeated if you fail one test.

You can pick yourself back up, knowing that everyone has their bad days. Be positive and confident in everything you do because we're all on this earth for a reason.

8. Be yourself

And last but not least, be yourself. Resolutions are to better yourself and not to change the person you are. Be the crazy outgoing, Gilmore Girl-loving person you are. Be the introverted book-worm that likes to have alone time. Better yourself, but also be yourself.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
