8 New Year's Resolutions that Didn't Exist 10 Years Ago

Aspirations for 2019 would have older generations incredibly confused-are these on your list?

8 New Year's Resolutions that Didn't Exist 10 Years Ago

I for one LOVE making my list of resolutions each year. It'd be nice if I stuck to all of them, but I think this is a universal problem. To combat this negative phenomenon about New Year's Resolutions, I created a list of 8 things that will bring a positive light to 2019. The scary thing is that most of these problems didn't even exist 10 years ago, so if you really want to put this list to the test, compare it to the goals of your grandparents and parents-the reactions may be pretty terrifying.

1. Ditch the Juul

I know I know, I hit you with the hard stuff right off the bat. Unfortunately, everyone does know how bad they are for you, but they are all around us! So don't just stop buying pods, throw it away. Yes, this applies to Suorins as well. Your body and bank account will thank you.

2. Take paper notes

Some people really do prefer typing their notes, but this also gives opportunities for distraction by social media, online shopping, and texting. If you can resist the urge, I give you mad props, but if you're like me, stick to paper and pencil, especially in those big lecture halls.

3. No social media

Deleting the Twitter app once in a while is great and all, but if you really want a mental health cleanse-deleting those accounts will feel rejuvenating. I haven't gotten this far yet, but hopefully some day. Social media does have many positive networking aspects, but it has spiraled into a competitive, like-seeking platform. If you're not into that, all you gotta do is press delete and find out who your real friends are.

4. Go vegan/gluten free

I'm vegetarian (except for McDonald's hamburgers but those aren't real meat anyways). Unfortunately, I have to be gluten free, but I am surprised at how many options I still have. For health nuts, going vegan and gluten free will allow you to eat clean, but things like the paleo diet are also options for those who need meat in their diets. Eating good really does make you feel good, so I hope to live this one out to its fullest extent in 2019. However, I don't think our grandparents grew up with the choice of gluten free bread and vegan cheese.

5. Delete pictures/Unfollow people

Giphy

Deleting pictures of toxic or negative people is a way to metaphorically remove them from your life, and then you can make the real life action as well. Unfollowing people, especially famous people and models is a good way to erase the "perfect image" we may strive for. If you have to keep social media, cut back on your screen time as well as who you choose to see content from.

6. Step up the dating game

Giphy

2019: the year REAL DATES come back (hopefully)! Don't entertain guys over snapchat or text anymore, make them ask you on a real date, or shit even ask them on a date! There are no rules anymore! Just don't let the guy you hooked up with at the bar think he's special by texting him the next day.

7. Ditch the makeup, straightener, and bra

Giphy

Natural beauty is IN! Take care of your skin, hair, and body, and use less artificial products and treat yourself to natural ones. Even deodorant, toothpaste, and chapstick come with healthier alternatives for the same price. We all hate bras anyways, so let yourself feel free a few days of the week in 2019- invest in comfortable bralettes and sports bras and drown out tight wires and straps.

8. Say something nice to someone daily-IN PERSON!

Giphy

Pay it forward! Say something nice to someone you know each day. Once you conquer this, evolve and compliment a stranger each day as well! The only catch: it can't be over the phone! Smile at people with teeth! Make eye contact! Say hi to the kid you see in class every day! Radiate positivity and happiness will find you in the new year!

It's never to early to too late to make a change. So do one of these things today! Or even January 2nd! Anyway is better than no day. 2019 is YOUR year, so take it by storm and don't let the cliche goals be the only things to fill your list of goals this year. Keep in touch with the times and know yourself, give something bad up and let something good in. When you do this, the real test is: don't post about it! We all know those moms on Facebook that post about their every move and slight accomplishment of all their children. Don't be that mom, just do you.

Epic Creation Myths: Norse Origins Unveiled

What happened in the beginning, and how the heavens were set in motion.

The Norse Creation Myth

Now, I have the everlasting joy of explaining the Norse creation myth. To be honest, it can be a bit kooky, so talking about it is always fun. The entire cosmos is included in this creation myth, not just the earth but the sun and the moon as well. This will be a short retelling, a summary of the creation myth, somewhat like I did with Hermod's ride to Hel.
