As a senior going into his last semester of college, I think I speak for almost all my fellow academics when I say I JUST WANT TO BE DONE. When your schedule is stacked with 400-level courses, you've got papers due every week, a senior thesis hanging over your head and you need to prepare job applications so you can, y'know, actually do something with all this education you've been working your ass off for... You tend to lose your mind a bit. But after a nice winter break, I think I'm ready to get back at it and power through the final stretch. So, to give myself goals along the way, here are some New Years resolutions that academics like me can strive toward (softly chuckle at as we realize their futility) as we work to finish strong (survive).

1. Reduce our caffeine intake

Too much caffeine in your system can, of course, cause hypertension, irritability, and insomnia. (But when I have a paper due in the morning and I need to write eight more pages, my blood pressure is the last thing on my mind. This is why I'm gonna die at forty.)

2. Find time for exercise

Exercise benefits both the body and the mind, after all.

3. Avoid stress eating

It's the little things you reward yourself with that can really get you, like some Cheetos or a whole sheet cake.

4. Establish responsible financial practices

Just act like you know what you're doing and attempt to save money.

5. Only drink at appropriate occasions

Lol, jk.

6. Create stress management strategies

Destroying things is an unhealthy output of emotion.

7. Keep your space neater and more organized

... But they do say messy spaces are a sign of brilliant minds.

8. Improve your confidence

It'll help you in the professional world, so start now. ... Or not. Eh, eff the professional world, I'll live.

9. Take up a hobby

I mean, whatever makes you happy.

10. Be kinder in your daily interactions

... Of course, being kind is easier without the irritability caused by caffeine, so if you've failed every single resolution since the beginning, go back and start again

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
