Okay, so it is that time of the year where people make a long list and you hear the saying "New Year, New Me." Personally, it is the most overrated sentence I have heard in my life. But, one thing that came to mind with this saying is a "New Year's Resolution." It made me stop and think why do we have to wait until the New Year to start bettering ourselves?
We are told that we should come up with some sort of goal for ourselves for the New Year. This is great! But, what usually happens is we buy into a gym membership, that will eventually go unused after three weeks or we go to Facebook and announce to everyone our new goals we are going to do after January 1st, then never conquer.
But, instead of announcing our New Year's resolutions to the world let's try to make them more private and create a reasonable goal for ourselves. Instead of waiting until the New Year to better ourselves, let's just do it.
Just do whatever you want to do because you want to do it, not because you are choosing to do something because you feel pressured to fall into the saying "New Year, New Me."
I think we would better ourselves by just being low-key with our ambitions and goals and just do what makes us happy. We tend to follow what everyone is doing or what "trend" is currently going on instead of doing what we want to do.
So, for this year, let's all make a promise to ourselves more so than a resolution and try to stick to something we have always wanted to change or do. I think if we keep realistic thoughts to ourselves, the better outcome we will have.
