2017 is coming to an end, and let’s face it—this year has been quite a ride for women in the United States. From observing the rise of a misogynistic president to marching alongside each other in the largest single-day protest in U.S. history to seeing a groundbreaking increase in female political candidates, to breaking the silence surrounding sexual assault… it’s easy to say that 2017 has been a big year for women.
As we approach a brand new year, filled with new opportunities, it seems fitting to aim high and set some lofty #GirlBoss resolutions to keep this momentum going. So, without further ado, here are five new year’s resolutions to make happen in 2018:
1. Say 'no' more
Give yourself permission to say 'no'— 'no' to violence, 'no' to injustice, 'no' to anything that makes you unhappy, uncomfortable or upset. Respect yourself enough to decline anything that doesn't serve you, without feeling guilty or weak. Be strong for yourself.
2. Speak your mind
Stop holding back your ideas, opinions or perspectives. Your voice matters—share it.
3. Be more politically engaged
If you want change, make it happen. Stay informed, participate in movements you care about, vote, join in political dialogue, open your mind to perspectives different from yours. We all deserve a seat at the table, so go get it.
4. Stop limiting yourself
Shoot for the stars and chase after your goals, no matter how big or small they may be. Embrace your capabilities, and never let anyone tell you that you can't, because you can.
5. Empower other women
Let's make 2018 a year of empowering other women, not putting them down. Turn criticism into encouragement; change competition into solidarity.
Here's to 2018, nasty women.
