New Year, New You?

As the new year rolls around once again, everyone is gearing up for what’s in store. You’ll no doubt see the same “New year, new me” resolutions among many others. While making a resolution is a great idea, how often are the resolutions kept? Have you made resolutions in the past just to let them go a few weeks after the new year begins? This year, make a resolution that counts.

1. Make an attainable goal.

If you make a goal that is too difficult for you to reach, you will lose motivation and give up. Your goal needs to be one that you know you can keep. Challenge yourself to reach a goal but don't make it unrealistic for yourself. It doesn’t need to be anything large, just something to make you happy. Don’t be afraid to make multiple resolutions as well. If you decide to keep your goals small you can set multiple to reach throughout the year.

2. Make a resolution that matters.

Make sure your resolution is something that matters to you. Don’t make a resolution just because your friends or family are. Do something that makes you happy and will affect your life in a positive way. Don’t forget to keep common sense in mind when you’re deciding on a goal. For example, don’t make a resolution to lose weight when you are already at an ideal body weight.

3. Map it out.

Don’t just make a resolution. Make an entire outline of your goals. If you want to lose weight over the course of the year, make a schedule. For example, if you want to lose weight, make monthly goals. Maybe you want to lose 5 pounds a month and increase your intake of water to be healthier. Write your schedule for the year out on paper and hang it somewhere that you will always see it. If you have your goal mapped out you’ll be more likely to stick to it and stay on track.

4. Tell others about your resolution.

If other people know about your resolution you’ll be more likely to keep it. Some people find it embarrassing to not reach a goal if their family and friends all know about it. In addition, if you tell others about your resolution, they may want to join in on it. You may get a work out partner or a friend to keep you motivated throughout.

5. Track your progress along the way.

The last thing you can do to make sure you keep your resolution is track your progress. If you mapped out your plan for the year you have visual feedback on how you are doing. This will tell you if you are on track to making your goal a reality. Write down your results each day, week or month to see how far you have come. As you see these results you’ll be more likely to keep working towards your goal.

Good luck & Keep those goals!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
