What is the purpose of New Year's resolutions? When you think about it, what does that magic date, January 1st mean? One can pick any day out of the year to make a change. I have always wondered, do those resolutions ever really follow through? Take a second to think about all the resolutions one has made in their lifetime. How many of those have actually happen? It is all about mindset, you must want to make a change or adjustment.
If you had a rough year of relationships, what does a resolution actually do? Saying "I will fall in love" or that "I will date" does not actually make you do it. Mindset once again is imperative in the equation for success. Writing it down or saying will not change anything. Hence, why I have always found the aspects of resolutions humorous. The thought will not result in action, you have to make the steps to change.
Trying out a new hobby or "get fit" is a typical resolution for most people. Yet, how often during the years do people say they will do that? Most people say they will "get fit" for summer, hence the ads for diets that air in the months prior to the summer. Hobbies in general, come from a preexisting interest. If you think you will magically start like to football or drawing, you are misinformed. Try new things that will interest you and try to understand it.
I have fallen guilty to this too many times, the "I am clearing out the bad friends" resolution. One, it should not take the end of a year for someone to realize that a friend is not good for them. Two, we need to learn to respect ourselves enough to constantly sort through those in our lives. Yet, if it takes a "significant" occasion to make these changes, make sure you really look deep.
We need to focus on who we are as people, not silly resolutions. Think about all the things you like, love, dislike, or loathe about yourself. Now, focus on those aspects that you want to change. That is what should be your resolutions, how to make yourself the best version of yourself possible.
