New Year, New Resolutions
Mackenzie Webb

As this year comes to a close, people start to reflect on this past year, and think about how they wish to change their ways of living or different aspects of their lives in the coming year. Many resolutions and goals are set, but somehow after a month or so people begin to revert back to their old ways and their goals go down the drain. Although I am not one to speak about keeping myself on the track of staying with a goal, I have had some wise souls help me with tips on how to stay with resolutions or goals I have made for myself throughout my life.

One of the most important things to remember when creating goals or resolutions for yourself is to come up with realistic and reachable goals. These can be anything from not eating that one piece of chocolate to losing 10 pounds. Any goal is a good one if it is realistic. If there is a resolution made that is not realistically possible, then it starts to hurt you once you realize there is no way possible you can achieve your goal. This then makes you doubt the decision and capability you have to complete any other goals you might have set. Case in point, don't set outrageous goals for yourself that you can't complete.

Another important thing to keep in mind when making a resolution for yourself is to remember that changes don't happen instantaneously. Especially those involving weight loss, or new habits being formed. On average it takes about 66 times/days for a habit to be formed, therefore if you're trying to form a habit of any kind don't expect for it to be easy, for the first 2 months at least. With that said, after 2 months, or however long it takes your habit to form, it will be a routine and you won't have to think about doing it, it'll just happen. Moral of the story, don't give up even when it seems that is it inevitable that your habit won't form.

Lastly, be around people who support your new lifestyle or new goals for yourself. If you find that the friends you have now don't support the decisions you have made with the coming of the new year then maybe it's time to find a new crowd to hang with. It's even better if you find people who have made similar goals for themselves as you have for yourself. This can be someone who will join you on your trips to the gym, or even someone who decides to cut out nail biting from their life just as you have. You will find that it will be more fun and a tad bit easier to be around people who are on the same path of life as you are, and who are striving for the same goals.

With these tips and tricks for goal making and completing, I would highly recommend you think about resolutions for this upcoming year. Whether that's for a healthier lifestyle or just for emotional well being, either is important to be in a healthy state. Much luck to those on the journey to new resolutions, and remember that you're not alone!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
