New Year, New Body: The Reality

Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. Feeling confident about your body is something that many people strive for. At some point throughout life everyone feels insecure about their weight and size. Even the fittest people out their struggle with this sometimes. We catch ourselves wishing we weren't as heavy or that our waist was thinner. We see models and wish we looked like them. When flipping through fitness magazines we see people with legs and abs that we’ve always dreamed of.

Getting in shape is a very common new year's resolution for people of many ages. Many people look at beach body trainer Autumn Calabrese or Instagram fitness gurus and strive to look like them. The problem is that those people have spent countless months and years working out and eating right to shape their body into the way it is today. Numerous people whose resolution is to eat healthy and get in shape slowly give up because they don't see results. Results take time.

The results will come slowly, but surely.

Here's a few simple tips to ease your way into a healthier lifestyle.

1. H20

Water is a key factor in losing weight and getting in shape. Consuming water helps cleanse the toxins in our bodies. Drinking 8 or more cups of water today is a great start to a healthier lifestyle.

2. Tea is key

Green tea and lemon water are great detoxes. Drinking at hot cup of green tea in the morning on an empty stomach will cleanse the toxins in your body.

3. Carbs, carbs, carbs

Carbohydrates play an important role in providing energy especially for athletes and those that workout a lot. There are lots of unhealthy forms of carbohydrates though. Try eat whole grains.

4. Protein makes those muscles grow

Protein is a muscle builder and muscle is better than fat. Increase your protein intake while replacing those unhealthy carbohydrates.

5. Skip channels NOT meals

Skipping meals does not help you lose weight or reach a healthy lifestyle. This only makes you hungry which will cause you to eat more at your next meal.

6. Junk food is a no go

Say goodbye to that greasy pizza or left over birthday cake. Fat lasts longer than flavor. For those who love their sweets try the ideas below.

-Ice cream, you scream

When wanting that big bowl of ice cream that's loaded with sugar, pick up a flavored Greek yogurt instead. This snack is still tasty. Just remember that fat lasts longer than flavor.

-Where are the pop-aholics?

Drinking that large Pepsi or Coke is something that you can't seem to get out of your daily routine. Next time you're craving that caffeine try tea instead.

-Chocolate

Who doesn't love chocolate? It's ok to have candy, but minimal amounts. When that sweet tooth is calling for chocolate reach for dark chocolate. More of the original cocoa bean makes this tasty treat healthier than milk chocolate.

7. Cardio for the win

If your goal is to lose weight start with doing cardio to help burn fat. You don't have to complete hours worth of running on a treadmill each day. 30-40 minutes 4-5 times a week will do. Change it up and try new things to keep it fun.

8. Lifting won't make you bulking and buff

Girls often give weights the cold shoulder and only stick to the treadmill and elliptical. Although cardio plays a key roll in losing weight if you're wanting those toned legs and arms grab some weights. They don't have to be heavy.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
