The New Year brings new changes and new adventures. Last week I wrote about my personal goals and adventures I would like to endeavor in the year 2018. But I learned New Year’s day I won’t be the only one chasing new dreams and adventures.

My new favorite band of 2017 will be looking at some pretty big changes in the upcoming year as well. Many may recall that I wrote about The Dives on a few different occasions. I helped introduce their sound back in the early spring when they were starting to become a more prominent independent band. Then in August I wrote about the chance to go see them live and talk to them following their set. I still hold they are a great bunch and would still recommend checking them out if you ever get the chance.

On New Year’s Day they band released an announcement that almost broke me heart. It was announced that frontman Evan Stanley has decided to leave the band. While they fully support his decision it is a sad moment for all. Evan feels that he can no longer commit himself to The Dives sound and would like to pursue other musical interests.

So while Evan is working some new material and I await his next move, The Dives are also pressing on. Mike is moving into the center stage to take Evan’s place. Serge will continue on guitar and vocals. And Jimmy will also be continuing on drums and vocals. As of January 2, 2018, the band released a teaser video of the new material. They expect to have release new music in the spring.

Evan has yet release any further information outside of his decision to leave the group. He says he will be updating soon with more information about his upcoming endeavors. I fully expect great things to come from this talented young artist.

While I’m sad to see my new favorite band break up so soon, I’m glad to see it was on good terms. I really loved the sound that all four members put together and the amazing harmonies. I will definitely miss hearing that beautiful music and hearing Evan’s sweet guitar rifts in the mix of it all. I’m excited to hear what sound The Dives will roll out in the upcoming year. I’m just as excited to hear Evan’s new sounds. I’ve heard him perform some guitar improvisation and he’s played some great guitar rifts with his dad on some of the great KISS songs.

While I find it hard to let of a great band I fell in love with in the last year, I still fully support The Dives on their upcoming endeavors in the new year. I also fully support Evan in his decision to leave and his adventures as well. All four will still hold a special place for me. I was glad to be a part of their journey last year and look forward to continuing to be a part of their journey this year Together or separate they all have earned my support. I look forward to seeing them again in the upcoming year and wish them all the very best.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
