Some people don’t believe in New Years Resolutions, since time keeps going it does sound silly to pick a specific time to improve yourself. Everyday we should take time to improve our lives, but the New Year gives you the public support to reflect and change for the better. Here are ten new habits to pick up this new year;

1: Start your day off POSITIVE!

The first moments of your day shape your vibe and mood for the day. Wake up to your favorite song, and say something good like , “ I got so much sleep I feel great”, “ can’t wait to get my day started”, pretty much anything good. By putting your best foot forward you will have a more successful, productive day all together.

2: Make your bed in the morning !

It seems kinda pointless since you’ll prob take a nap in the middle of the day and mess it up anyway, BUT it’s a self care tip. It’s nice to have an organized area in your room. Plus it’s a small 6am task that makes you feel accomplished and feeling like a full adult.

3: Manage your health over a resolution.

A lot of people set a goal for themselves to improve their bodies through out the year, however this task should only be sought after for health purposes. Set a goal for yourself and make a plan to accomplish it. For starters, work on eating your daily meals, skipping s meal will only slow down your metabolism. By replacing processed and sugary food for healthier alternatives, and eating appropriate portion sizes an individuals is more likely to reach a goal without reaching drastic levels. Plus incorporating these healthy habits is a long term investment on yourself.

4: Educate Yourself.

If you ever wonder how there could be such narrow minded people in the world, ask yourself if they have often been exposed to viewpoint a differ from his. The only way to fight arrogance, and ignorance is through education. Pick up a book, read an autobiography, read about a life in a different time period, read about a dystopia and change- open up your mind. Take time to discover the world around you and its possibilities. Learn how to do new things, build a build house, learn a new language, or even how to bake, just do something new!

5: Take Care of Yourself first!

You deserve to be take time to remind yourself of how great of a person you are. Take a day off work, hang out with your friends, take a vacation. Learn that it’s natural to feel tired and grumpy, to feel low and beaten up- the only solution to that is to take time to regain your energy. Surround yourself with those who love you. And detach from toxic people and those you ‘drain’ you. Realizing you deserve the best out of life will change the way you see the world and how you navigate it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
