Ringing in the new year is always a great time: champagne, watching the ball drop, shots, toasts, sparkly outfits, etc. But when you wake in the morning? New year, same old hangover. Here's a few tips to managing your New Year's Day after a long New Year's Eve.
Water
Drink water. Drink all of the water you can. A long night of drinking dehydrates you, causing headaches and body aches. Replenish your water supply.
Pain relievers
To alleviate the pounding in your head, take an NSAID like ibuprofen. Avoid Tylenol (acetaminophen) at all costs: it's processed through your liver, and your liver is already doing double time from the alcohol.
Sleep
I don't know the science behind this one, but I do know that nothing feels better than a good sleep after a long night of drinking.Coffee
I can't function without coffee on a daily basis, but it's doubly true when I'm hungover. It can help get rid of your headache and give you life again, if only for a bit. Just be sure to drink water with it, to ensure your body rehydrates.
Toast
When you wake up and your stomach is revolting, eat toast or crackers or something bread-y to help settle it. It'll absorb the alcohol and get you feeling better faster.
Hangovers suck, but don't let it ruin your first day in 2017. Happy New Year, and happy functional hangover.
