"Wonder Woman" is now a highly anticipated film to see in 2017. Everyone has been anxiously waiting for DC or Marvel to release a female superhero movie. We've had female superhero television series to entertain us while we wait. Marvel aired series such as Agent Carter and Jessica Jones, while DC aired series like Supergirl. Still, the entire world has been waiting for a female superhero film. Now, it's finally here! Here are some of the best things about the Wonder Woman trailer.
1. The Girl Power:
As any comic book geek knows, Wonder Woman is the epitome of girl power. She is a demi-goddess who is nearly indestructible. The Wonder Woman trailer seems to depict an empowering backstory for Wonder Woman. Her backstory makes her seem as powerful and intimidating as her male superhero counterparts, such as Superman. Wonder Woman's skin is bullet proof, much like Superman, but she still chooses to use her cuffs and shield to protect herself from incoming projectiles. Wonder Woman has just as fascinating of a backstory as Superman, if not more so. She is not human like many female superheroes. She's a different species, a demi-goddess created by Zeus and raised on an island of all women. She'd never met a man before in her life. She's a warrior in her own right as are all the women on the island she came from. The trailer depicts them fighting like the true warrior goddesses they are.
2. The Gender Role Reversal:
Diana/Wonder Woman is the hero saving the day in this movie. Steve Trevor seems to wash up on the shores of the all-female warriors island. She seemingly goes to the real world with him. In the real world, there is a lot of danger Wonder Woman faces in defense of the human race. The trailer depicts Steve Trevor saying lines similar to one's female characters have said in male-dominated superhero movies. He wants her not to fight afraid she'll get hurt, as many of the female counterparts have done in male superhero movies. Two lines basically sum up the gender role reversal. Steve Trevor says, "I can't let you do this." And, Wonder Woman responds with, "What I do is not up to you."
3. The Noble Fight:
"It is our sacred duty to defend the world and it is what I'm going to do," is one of the most striking lines in the Wonder Woman trailer. Wonder Woman did not have to save the world. She did not fall from the sky. She chose to follow Steve Trevor to where the war was, and she chose to fight to save the people. She's a noble character with an honorable fight ahead of her. This film is a must see in 2017!
