One day, I was at the mall with my friend Kris and we decided to get smoothies. It was a great day, I had bought some new things and It was fun all until I couldn't even read what was in each smoothie.
This was the first time in my life that I had not been blessed with 20/20 vision. At 18, I had to go to the eye doctor for an actual problem instead of a checkup, and I was scared.
The process was extremely easy and painless and my doctor explained how I didn't need much correction but a small prescription would crisp up my vision and help, as I would be going to school soon and seeing whiteboards is vital.
Here is a list of things I did and didn't do when I got glasses that made me feel crazy.
Seeing Fuzzy
As I have never had glasses, I never knew how dirty they could manage to get in what seems like minutes. I have found myself thinking that my vision is getting worse already when in fact, it's just my fifty glasses that have added a film between me and the board I am trying to see.
How often should you clean your glasses? That's something they don't tell you when getting glasses. I can tell you it's more than once every three weeks.
Loosing Them
I often find myself saying "where are my glasses" or "have you seen my glasses" and I remind myself of my parents and grandma.
I never knew they truly do grow legs and walk away after you've set them in a place where you know you'll remember them. This is more than just forgetting them because I feel as if I have actually lost them.
Sitting Too Close
Glasses help you to finally see the things you had to strain and accommodate for, and I find myself sitting where I used to sit in my class. When I sit that close I don't rely on my glasses as much and its awkward.
Where Do They Go On Your Nose?
Ive been wearing glasses for about a month and a half and still don't know how high is too high and how low is too low.
I also find myself readjusting my glasses quite often because I have no idea where exactly they're supposed to go, I often think too far into it and think people with glasses notice where mine are or how much I mess with them.
Forgetting Them
I am used to grabbing my phone, keys and book bag as I head to class but I am not accustomed to making sure my glasses are packed so that I can be sure I can see the board.
I have a case for my glasses and still cannot manage to pack them and keep them with me in the chance that I may need them during class.
Wearing glasses is new to me and all glasses wearers go through a transitional period where they're confused about some of the things that veteran glasses wearers are used to.
Some of my experiences have been embarrassing and funny and hopefully relatable to others who either have glasses or are new to glasses.
