I never thought that I would spend my Saturday night at a Taylor Swift concert. Most of the concerts I attend are for alternative bands, and I had only ever heard her songs that were on the radio. But a lot changed when I got free tickets from work. While I wasn't a huge fan, I wasn't going to pass up a free stadium concert.
So my roommate and I ditched our plans to do nothing and went and saw Taylor Swift.
Charli XCX and Camila Cabello were perfect openers and seeing them come back to sing with Taylor during "Shake It Off" was so much fun to see. Taylor was on a level of her own. I knew most of her older songs and a few of her new ones, but I was still blown away by the performance she put on. Right after the first song, I realized why my brother's girlfriend has gone to every one of her concerts.
The concert, of course, made me fall in love with her new album, but also Taylor in general. It's one thing to captivate an audience in a small venue. It's something else completely to captivate an entire stadium full of people and keep the same level of energy throughout the whole show. It was a new experience for me to be in an open arena while still having that same sense of intimacy that smaller concerts have. I loved all of it. The entire show from the music to the lights to Taylor was beautiful.
Thanks to a couple free tickets and an amazing show I am now a Taylor Swift fan, and I finally get the hype.
