We all know how exciting summer can get. Especially a summer that comes after a pandemic. We are technically still in a pandemic but it just so happens that our ability to roam to different places has gotten significantly greater than before…
It's a new chance to enjoy summer like we couldn't the past year and make all the new experiences that we weren't able to make last year (although the former is quite literally true). Just because we couldn't enjoy our summer last year, doesn't mean we can't enjoy it this year, right?
If I could tell myself from quarantine something, I would definitely tell her to not miss any opportunity to soak in the sun and make new experiences in new places and with new people. As someone who is a forced inside extrovert, the quarantine has taken a toll on my mental health and that of many people I know as well. As humans, it's only natural for us to want to make new memories and new milestones for the rest of our lives. When something like the quarantine happens, it causes a bump in that journey...
Well, luckily we have a few more options or "ways" to enjoy our summer this 2021. With a new atmosphere, comes brand new places to check out and indulge in. As someone who is usually an introvert, I have realized how important it is to take advantage of every experience I can get to enjoy life. For the past year, we have been living inside such a bubble, that we now need to rejuvenate ourselves and get ready to enjoy the brighter things in life again, whether it's going to an art gallery, or just being able to have brunch with your friends in person again. There is so much to look forward to this summer of 2021.
Museum of Ice Cream- Who doesn't like ice cream?! And better yet seeing ice cream aesthetics all around in a colorful museum setting. Located on 558th Broadway, this is a place that you won't want to miss, especially if you are a HUGE ice cream fan. This museum includes a 3 story indoor "Ice cream portal", a ride to "outer space" with the Celestial Subway, a "Sprinkle Pool," where people can jump in and have fun like they used to when they were young. It is a highly renovated, clean place that can work as either a weekend hangout or specifically for the good old Sunday
Little Island- If you hate mushrooms or fungi, or anything related, this place WILL change your mind. Located on the southwest side of the Hudson at Pier 55, this building includes many protruding column structures that create a wave-like form. The park is structured on top of these "mushroom-like" columns. Unfortunately, the only downside to this place is that visitors are not allowed to bring pets (including fur babies, aka dogs, cats). But if you are still open to visiting a place with peculiar architecture, then this may be the place.
LuminoCity Festival- If you want to go someplace where there is a lot of bright colors and lights, then this might be the event/place for you. Known for its immersive light show that started in 2019 at Randall's Island Park, this place is a destination that has yet to catch your eye. Located on Randall's Island Park, it is the ideal event if you are looking to travel with your parents and siblings or if you have the day off to babysit a younger sibling and need someplace to go. They are currently taking online appointments.
