4 Beneficial Aspects That Come With Learning A New Language

I think I have always been obsessed with different languages and cultures. I always wanted to learn a second language, and once I started learning one, I realized how excited it made me and how much I enjoyed learning. I have now come to the conclusion that there is nothing bad about learning a new language.

It’s super cool

thumbs up

Personally, I love having bragging rights to something. I know that when I was younger, I was always so jealous of my classmates who could speak more than one language. Aside from it just being cool you know another language, new languages being an air of positivity and your level of creativity is shown to go up.

You will expand your cultural knowledge tremendously

human observer

I would bargain that it is very difficult to learn a language without learning about the culture of that language. In most places around the world, culture and language are intertwined. You'll find that a lot of phrases and words that work in, for example, French, may not make sense in English. But, once you find context in the culture, it makes sense. If you decide to go abroad at any point, the language will serve as your most important tool, and you will find that it will be much easier to embed yourself into the culture.

The cognitive benefits are pretty amazing

the thinker

It has been proven multiple times that bi or multilingual people tend to score better on tests, especially in vocabulary, reading, and language arts. People who speak or at least are learning another language also fare better when it comes to memorization and picking out misleading or unnecessary information. It has also been found that those who learn more than one language can delay or prevent dementia.

It will help your future more than you probably have imagined

handshake

I know in high school, at least for me, it was pushed so hard that we do well in our Spanish classes because it would help us get hired in the future, even if we knew just a little. While I moved on to French instead of Spanish, the opportunities that are open to me have expanded a lot. Employers look for things like knowledge in a second language to help cater to more clients, partners, or customers. Even being able to prove that you have an intermediate level of fluency in a language can get you very far and can actually help you advance further inside your career.

Language opens the door to the arts

While this may not necessarily be important to everybody, it never hurts to know more about plays, books, music, or art from around the world. If you're someone who is interested in the arts, congratulations because you are definitely finding your way to expanding your creative knowledge a great deal.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
