Oh Jessica Day, how you were placed in such an awkward situation with the quirkiest, yet best roommates ever makes me envious. On a whim, you daringly responded to a fishy listing that read, "It's sun-soaked and 'beigy'." -- yeah that sounds descriptive and safe, but you took a chance. If it wasn't for that random Internet listing, which was your last resort, where would you be? Where would we be without all the laughter New Girl has brought?
New Girl, I applaud you, mostly because you are one of the few shows that has made me cry -- either from almost peeing my pants in laughter or from the heartfelt moments when life just fell into place for the characters. Whether they were playing True American, saying "I love you" while listening to Prince, or watching their 'night blind' police partner run past the criminal, New Girl never seemed to disappoint.
Not only did New Girl never disappoint, the experience the characters endured and seeing how they developed throughout the show -- how could you not become attached? New Girl took the audience through life experiences we all seem to encounter, maybe not in such a bizarre way. It makes us feel okay about our lives, knowing we can relate and laugh about these goofy situations we also find ourselves in.
In particular, New Girl can accurately depict certain events that we all know too well. For example, packing for a trip. New Girl could offer some insight toward this situation. It is through these times that New Girl taught us the proper way to prepare for a trip and have the proper experience:
1. When you procrastinate and realize what you got yourself into.
It's probably the morning before you leave for your trip, and you have to plan how to spend legitimately every single minute in order to be on time -- and then you're still late.
2. When you want to make some last minutes snacks for the trip.
"Either I am hoping this will taste good or my smile will convince you otherwise," is probably what is going through my mind.
3. When you want to bring your entire closet.
Yeah, maybe a knock off Looney Tunes sweat shirt with George Bunny should be a reality check when you're cramming it into your suitcase.
4. When you know you need to pack the good stuff.
You're going on vacation -- it's time to let loose and indulge in some True American festivities.
5. When you're trying to find the clothes you want to wear.
Well, your favorite pair of jeans is at the bottom of the pile and there's no way laundry is an option now.
6. When you feel like you deserve a break.
You've made some progress, why not reward yourself with a little cold, leftover pizza?
7. When you find random reasons to distract yourself.
Have you heard that one story from that one time at that one place?
8. When you think you're on a roll.
So you thought you were making progress, but you know you're forgetting something. This something just happens to be the most important thing you need.
9. When you can close the zipper on your suitcase.
You might have had to sit on it, but at least you were able to zip close your suitcase.
10. When you've finally finished.
Hey, you're done and you managed to remember your toothbrush even though sleep deprivation was on your heels.
Celebrate, be happy, and enjoy your vacation.
