We clashed champagne glasses,

We took the last bite of our appetizers,

We watched the ball drop in New York,

We watched the star rise in Chicago,

We shared everlasting memories

For the last and first time.

We reflected

We stayed up to the dawn of the new year

To somewhat regret it the next day at work

Because even though we said goodbye to 2016 for the last time,

And we said hello to 2017

And we said hello to a headache along with that.

We have a new chapter ahead of us,

A fresh start for another year.

But this year,

Let’s make resolutions that last,

That last more than just a couple of weeks

Like breaking a bad habit

Or trying something new

For the last or first time.

We could aspire to write an award winning novel

Or a movie that becomes the biggest blockbuster of the year.

We could travel the world and try new things,

Or could change the past for the better.

We can do anything that our heart's desire,

Because it's a fresh start for another year

Even though for a week, we'll still be dating everything '16

For the first and last time.
