At 22-years-old, I finally got my first pet, a dog. This may sound crazy, but I was never really an animal person growing up. I was scared to death of dogs. I didn’t like them at all, and it didn’t bother me that I didn’t have a pet.
In school, people would talk about their pets and pass around pictures of them. In second grade, we had to write in our journals about our pets, and I remember writing ‘dogs are scary.’ I was totally fine being the oddball who didn’t have a pet and didn’t like animals.
Honestly, I never thought I could love a dog as much I love my little puppy. I went from being anti-animals to an adoring dog mom in a matter of days. Now, I worry over every little thing she does and every sound she makes. If you’re a first-time dog owner, I’m sure you can relate to these crazy signs of being an obsessed dog mom.
1. You use your squeakiest, softest voice
Your voice can’t help but reach the highest pitch possible when you talk to your dog.
2. You rhyme her name with anything and everything
The poor baby will never learn her own name because you’re always rhyming it with something.
3. You hover over her every move
Helicopter mom takes on a whole new meaning. You are a helicopter dog mom. Your eyes are glued to her constantly.
4. You ran out of space on your phone because there is nothing but dog pictures
There is now no more space on your phone. That means you must delete a picture, but they are all SO cute.
5. Those pictures are pulled up on your phone ready to flaunt
Did someone just mention dogs? You have a dog now! You pull out your phone super-fast to show off your dog.
6. You love hearing people say your fur baby is the cutest
There is no one like her. Your dog is the cutest. Hands down.
7. You stay by her side while she sleeps
Every little move has you at the edge of your seat. Is she still breathing? Is she covering her face? Wait, she’s OK.
8. You have multiple alarms set for during the night
No joke. An alarm is set for each time she wakes up during the night to go do her business.
9. Your day officially begins when your dog wakes up
If she wakes up at 6 a.m., your day is starting. Ready or not…she is ready to play.
10. You constantly worry there is something wrong with her
Every sound makes you wonder if she is sick or crying.
11. You can’t even get mad when she goes potty on the carpet
No matter how many times she has accidents on the rug or the carpet, you can’t really get mad. You just look at that face, and she has you hooked for life.
12. Leaving her at home breaks your heart
You hate leaving her because you’re missing out on her doing something ADORABLE.
13. You fall in love with her more and more each day
You simply never thought it was possible to have so much love for a dog.
