Lately, I've been pondering thoughts on certain topics wondering if it was too late to do them. And then I realized it wasn't. When you've had that gut instinct to do something, sometimes we don't do it because we aren't sure about it. Then once we're older, we finally decide to do it because we think, "I'm still young, and I can do it. It's not too late." So go out there and do what you originally wanted to do when you thought of it. Don't listen to others who try to talk you out of doing it; they are just baggage.
Ever since I was in high school, I always bounced around on what I wanted to do with my life. I bounced from so many different majors, I am pretty sure I drove my mom nuts. I watched teachers at the schools I've worked at and I realized I wanted to be that. As I worked at camp, I liked being around kids, but kept pushing the thought of being a teacher out of my head.
Just recently, I decided to pursue the Elementary Education Professional Program. My job at the YMCA helped me realize that I am meant to be a teacher after school. It's inevitable and clear as day.
Plus, all these videos of teachers having such amazing bonds or unique handshakes with each of their students motivates me to do those things for when I am a teacher. I've had teachers that would ask questions about my life like "How's horseback riding?" and what not, or they've told me they loved reading my science fiction story assignment and that made me feel cared about.
I want to make kids feel that their teacher cares about them, too. I've bonded with kids over so many things like talking about horses, movies they've seen or even just playing a game of chess (and somehow winning the game). Kids want to know that adults around them care about them, and I want to be one of those adults they look up to.
Overall, it is never too late to do anything you want to do. If you have a passion for something that you were nervous about pursuing, go pursue it. Don't put it off until you're 40. Tune out the people who tell you "it's too late" or "the pay isn't good." Do what you want to do because you know that you will love it.
