Netflixing Your Life Away

Temptation isn't easily avoided.

Streaming services like Hulu and Netflix are on the rise. And have been for quite sometime. With the increasing eyes glaring at the screens in their pockets or the ones on desks (that seem to be more tempting in office cubicles and at 3 a.m.), there's also an increase elsewhere. Binge watching. Not excluding the people who still do so, but it used to be more popular to watch shows every week right on the same Thursday at 8 p.m. Now with whole complete series right at your disposal- it's hard not to click to the next episode. Especially when these sites play it automatically after. What would have taken months before to finish, could be done in days (depending on one's dedication). This follows a lot of patterns of how things are currently. Everyone rushing for more information, impatient to see if Brad kisses Carrie. I am a relapsing binge watcher. And as someone who has seen love relationships spring into action over a whole season of "Friends" in what seemed like only hours, I've also noticed missed time. A real relationship doesn't develop in increments of 36 minutes. Nor does it skip dialogue when your phone rings and you forget to put "The Office" on pause. Binge watching is a good distraction- being caught up in lives of others who always seem to fall down and be able to get back up. It's inspiring to feel so connected. But no matter how much you watch, you can't expect the same results by studying actors. While distractions can be beneficial, don't let yourself get too wound up. It's easy to start ignoring why your best friend is mad at you when living through Amy Poehler. So although a fun activity, try not to sell your soul to Netflix. Take a break from "Gilmore Girls", and go experience everything you've been watching.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
