Since the time I became a high school senior, I was scared of the future. At the time, I had no idea where I wanted to go to college, let alone what I wanted to major in. It felt like all my friends around me knew exactly where they wanted to attend college, what they wanted to major in, and what they wanted to do after graduating college.
As I received decisions from colleges, I only became more confused. I wasn't sure how I was going to pay or which college to pick. As the pressure to choose accumulated, I finally decided on a college and figured out how to pay for my tuition.
After my first year in college, I was panicking about what to major in. Everyone else seemed so sure, and I hated the major that I initially thought I would enjoy. After sophomore year rolled around, I decided to take classes and decide on a major based off what classes I enjoyed the most. I finally decided to double major in subjects I couldn't like more.
Somewhere along the way, I realized that it's okay not to have a plan for your future. The future is so unclear, and there are many paths in life that one can take. There's an answer for every question that you have for your future. You have to be the one to find the solution.
Maybe you didn't get accepted to your dream college, and that's okay. You'll find another where you'll still get an excellent education and could open up opportunities that another college might not have. You can even get that dream job that you want.
Maybe you have no idea how to pay for college, and that's okay. Look into scholarships given out by the college or through programs in your hometown. Perhaps get a job while attending college.
Maybe you're unsure about what you should major in, and it's okay to take your time. Take different classes, and find out what you enjoy. Based off that, you can narrow it down and then decide on what to declare.
No matter what you're unsure about, you'll find your way. Be patient with the process. It may take you longer to than your friends to know what you want to major in or where you want to attend college. Everyone should be on their own time, and not anyone else's.
Don't be afraid of the future, be excited. You'll find your way and you should enjoy the ride.
