Summer as a college student is very different than a high school student. You have a lot more responsibilities (eek) and things to accomplish. So I decided to make a list of the main things every single college student should do this summer.
This summer, I’m trying to fit in as many things that I didn’t do throughout the school year.
1. Read a book
Boring, I know. But summer is often the only chance we have as busy students to have the time to read the books that we’ve wanted to read. So read some books; not only will it keep your brain sharp, but it is an amazing relaxing pastime that doesn’t include a screen.
2. Take a nap
It’s time. Finals are over, and whether you are still on campus, moved back home, traveling abroad this summer, or are traveling for a sweet summer job, the only thing all college student have in common is that we all nap the first second we get an opportunity to.
3. Pet your dog
After months of merely seeing pictures, it’s time to embrace that fluffy animal that is always excited that you are home.
4. Spend time with your siblings
No matter what a lot of Instagram posts seem, summer is the time for family. If possible, go out with your siblings. Be present while at home for the summer, because in this in-between stage of full independence and adolescence, these may be some of your last weeks at home.
5. Spend time with your parents
You know, the people who love you and are cheering you on? The calls you made of the semesters were nice but it’s time to connect with these humans who raised you.
6. Help out around the house
Just do it.
7. Summer classes
If you can, try to do it.
8. Make some money
Because you have to. It’s a blessing to have time to make some money before the next school year comes around. Just keep reminding yourself it’s only a few months before another form of busy takes over.
9. Get a tan
Did you blind yourself when you stepped outside in the sun? If so, it’s time to tan.
10. Lose the weight
You have the time, and you’re off the meal plan. It’s time to catch up on everything that you didn’t have time for during the school year, like the motivation to lose the weight you’ve gained since last summer.
11. Catch up with friends
Free time! Woop woop! Call your high school friends. Hang out with your local friends. It’s time for cookout and pools and fun memories!
12. Try something new
Now is the time. Go out and have an amazing summer!
