Okay, so, it's the only thing that the internet has been talking about for about a week, besides the fact that Season 2 of Thirteen Reasons Why just hit Netflix. So, how come you haven't picked up your remote control and hit play?! The Kissing Booth, light, fluffy, and comedic is a teenage rom-com sensation. It's not very dramatic, except for a couple exceptional parts, but it makes you finish it feeling happy, carefree, and lovey-dovey. It's super sweet, but can also teach a couple of valuable life lessons.
Elle Evans, the leading protagonist, struggles with secretly sustaining a relationship with her longtime crush, Noah Flynn, her best friend's older, mysterious, football-playing, bad-boy, gorgeous senior brother who also happens to be Harvard-bound. Elle's school year starts off on the wrong note, with her pants ripping, meaning she had to resort to her "back-up back-ups" which were more like boy shorts, if anything. On the first day of school, after a harassment from a boy, Noah jumps to her defense and fights the boy, as per his usual first day of school protocol, and the pair end up in the principals office, making conversation about Elle's experience with boys, and the fact that Noah is a big fighter, always in some sort of trouble.
A couple of days after the encounter, it becomes prominent that all of the boys at school are being threatened by Noah that if they wanted to ask her out, they would have to go through him first, and nobody wanted to have to endure Noah Flynn's wrath.
Eventually, Elle, persistent, stubborn, and confident, gets ear of Noah's advancements and she tries to shut it down. Everything is pretty calm, relaxed, with only a little romantic tension between the pair, and the audience is left wondering whether the two are meant to be.
That is, until one fateful night involving an "ex-boyfriend," a carnival, and a Kissing Booth. Elle, who has never had her first kiss, and of course, like all of us, wants to save it for someone special, gets put on the spot when the popular girls force her to take their spot on the stage. They claim that one of their "ex-boyfriends" are there and their close friendship with each other forbids them from having to be the one to kiss him. So, Elle gets sent up to the stage to kiss the mystery dude, and the rest of the story advances from there as we find out who he really is, and who Elle shares her special moment with.
'The Kissing Booth' is a cute, sweet, and simple story about trying new things, finding love in places you would never expect it, and making the most with your significant other while you've still got time.
