Hiking Trails Are Good For My Soul

Unfortunately, it's the one thing I lack at college.

Hiking Trails Are Good For My Soul

Every time I go out for a run while I'm at school I have one thought: that I wish there was an actual hiking trail near here.

Now there's all of campus and the ten-mile river trail but those aren't the same. First of all, they're paved which produces a less-resistant surface to run on. It's harder on your legs because there's no give.

On top of that, it's hard to use exercising as an escape from school when you have to pass classroom buildings.

Lastly, there's an awful lot of people. Yes, it's fun to pass by my friends for a quick hi but I could really do without the catcalling from strangers either in their cars or walking down High Street. It's slightly hard to concentrate when you want to hit someone for being gross.

But this isn't about the creeps I try to sprint by. They're not worth my time.

I'm here for my hiking trails.

There's something about being away from it all. I've been on runs before where I don't see anyone else on the trail. Depending on the weather it can seem a little eerie but it's usually peaceful. I'm able to focus so much more on the present moment as opposed to worrying about moving for someone else.

After that, there's the change of scenery. I would much rather trade in the buildings I walk by every day for trees and streams and hills. It really lets me take my mind off school and work for a little bit. There's also so much beauty to look at.

When I went to Hocking Hills with my friend this summer I could not get enough of just looking at everything. The same goes for when I went hiking in Oklahoma. You just can't find a trail that leads to a natural waterfall in Columbus.

I love OSU, but I need to go home to my hiking trails.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
