A couple of weeks ago, I was reading an article about happiness for one of my classes and it got me thinking. Most people think that happiness is something that you will be able to have after you've achieved something, met someone, or fallen in love.
This is wrong.
The reality is that happiness isn't meant to be something you get to experience one day, like you've unlocked it after completing a checklist. Happiness is nature's way of saying that you're doing good. Happiness is your mind, your body, and your soul letting you know you're in line with what is truly best for you.
For example, when you do something that feels good and is enjoyable, you will naturally experience happiness. And, on the other hand, wouldn't it make sense that we'd feel bad when we're going in the “wrong direction?" (Bad could mean feelings of anxiety, feeling upset, sad, hurt, angry, bitter, and/or being depressed).
Happiness is simple and maybe that's why we struggle so hard with the concept. It's so obvious. It comes from inside us. It’s when we do things and spend time with the people that we enjoy. It’s not something that we need to search for – it’ll come naturally.
Also, nobody but you will know what makes you happy. Nobody's judgments should have an impact on what you do with your life and what makes you happy. It’s not their life to live.
So if you enjoy doing things that people think are weird, oh well. If you enjoy doing things that others think are lame, be lame. Make your happiness the most important thing in your life, and watch what happens.
