I Need A Drink

It can be so easy for us to deal with worries, stress, or the overwhelming business of our everyday lives through the ways of this world, but the only thing that can really make us feel better is a drink of the living water.

"Man, I need a drink."

When troubles, stress, worries, or even just the everyday craziness of our lives overwhelms us, we can tend to rely on ways of this world to make ourselves feel better. We may head out to get some drinks, binge watch netflix for several hours, or sleep way more than normal. We distract ourselves so we don't have to face whatever it is that is making us worry.

A lot of stress can cause some wear and tear on our bodies, too.

God didn't say that we wouldn't have stressful moments, though. In fact, in John 16:33, Jesus says, "In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer." But this verse is proof that we don't have to take matters into our own hands and we don't have to react to stress the way that the world does.

So how should we deal with stress, hurt, pain, anger, worries, and other troubles we will face in this world?

Well one thing is certain, we do need a drink. But of the living water.

When life starts to overwhelm you, here are some ways that you can drink the living water and deal with the stress and worries you face.

Limit the amount of things you stress over in the day. In Matthew 6:34, Jesus says, “Do not worry about tomorrow. For tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” God knows what is going to happen tomorrow, you don't. So there is no sense in worrying over something you can't control. It just wastes your energy and strength.

Give thanks for all things, because God is using all things for your good. We can drink the living water by thanking the Lord. Know that God is wise, kind, and has a plan in store for you. He won't leave you stranded in your stressful seasons.

Being thankful is something that we can practice. First thing when you wake up in the mornings, say "Thank You God for another day!" We can pray, "Thank you for being the Light of the world, for coming to save me, and for loving me." We can look for Him as we go throughout our day, thanking Him for anything that reminds us of Him.

Call upon His name! Whenever you're feeling overwhelmed or like it has been a long day that has drained you of all of your energy and strength, call upon the Lord for His strength. Just talk to Him about your troubles and about your day! God will comfort us and give us strength when we are weak. God will be there for us, we need only be still and to call upon His name!

Finally, know that God calls us to not conform to the ways of this world, but to be transformed by the renewal of our minds. The Bible tells us to fill our minds with things of God, so don't try to ease your stress and your soul through the ways of this world. Remember, God's Will is better than our own.

He is the Prince of Peace, Comforter, and Almighty.

Cast your burdens upon Him and He will give you rest.

So go and drink the living water so that it can overflow from you and into the lives of others!

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
