I Love Everything About Nebraska -- Except This

What I believe is Nebraska's biggest con -- and no, it's not the cows.

Some of you will read the title, and say 'what'?

But let me tell you something.

I'm a girl who has lived and grown up in Nebraska my entire life, and I can say for certain that there are probably a lot of 'cons' people could come up for Nebraska. A very long list, but that could be done another time. However, I believe that my lovely home state has only one major one. One that can't really be changed, and there is no way to fix this con because...well...that would mean I'd have to basically move mountains to do.

Now, this is something that I believe in after visiting Colorado. No, it has nothing to do with legalizing marijuana for recreational use, although I do believe that it does have some amazing medicinal uses that every state should be using. Add that to the con list that you may have for Nebraska.

So Nebraska is flat, for the most part, and has some trees. There are a lot of cows and fields, as well as wide open skies unless you're in the city. Yeah, sometimes it can be stinky, but when you live here your whole life, you get used to it. Some people like this, think it's perfectly okay, and some people may like a little more scenery. Don't get me wrong, I think that it is beautiful, but I think that are much prettier sights that can be seen. Such as mountains.

The biggest con of living in Nebraska is having to travel to see mountains. Yes, the biggest con of my state, is the fact that there aren't any mountains. Why? Well, they're beautiful and have so many different activities that would be possible. Rock climbing, hiking, seeing beautiful lakes and snow covered mountain tops. So I kind of wish that Nebraska had mountains to see and visit more easily than traveling over six hours into Colorado to go to the Rocky Mountains.

I'm so jealous of all the people I know who are from Colorado or any other state that has a mountain backdrop.

So I'm a Nebraska girl -- I really do actually love my state -- who loves the mountains and wish that I had a way to see them more easily. I think this is mostly due to me being an artist and that I fell in love with the mountains the second I saw them. Seeing them makes me want to paint them or try to draw them to the best of my ability. But without having mountains in Nebraska, I have to take pictures and draw from memory. Which is hard sometimes, but it's also not the same feeling as when you get to sit down and have the object in front of you when you draw it.

But yes, in the end, the biggest con of living in Nebraska for me, is that there are no mountains. What about for you? What would you say is your top con for Nebraska?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
