It's finals time in the NBA and the Warriors and Cavs isn't looking too good right now in terms of how long this series will go. The Cavs find themselves down 2-0 to Golden State with Game 3 serving as the pivotal game in this series. Either the Cavaliers will make a stand at home and make this series a little interesting, or face a 3-0 hole no team has ever come back from in finals history. To be fair to Cleveland, this series could easily be tied at 1 game a piece, making this trip home all the more crucial.
In game 1, LeBron James came out super aggressive. He was looking to score from the outset of the game and finished with a career playoff-high 51 points. He single-handedly kept his team in the game and were it not for a few questionable calls, and no calls, the Cavaliers could have gone up 1-0 in this series. A missed free throw by George Hill near the end of regulation would have put them up 1, but J.R. rebounded the miss and proceeded to run out the clock, rendering himself an instant meme and game 1 goat. The game ended up going into overtime, but that was all the opening Golden State needed to seize control of the game and they won in the extra time.
In game 2, despite a crazy hot start from the Golden Boys, Cleveland was hanging with them for most of the game. They were able to stifle each Golden State run with one of their own and seemed to be in a position to make a game out of it in the 4th. That proved to be fool's gold as game 2 turned out being the "Steph Curry Game." Curry had an NBA Finals record 9 made 3-pt shots and some were of the demoralizing variety. He finished with 33 points and the Warriors blew Cleveland out in game 2. KD added 26 points on 70% shooting while Klay also broke the 20-point barrier. Shaun Livingston and Javale Mcgee were perfect in the game shooting going a combined 11-11.
On the flip side, Lebron finished game 2 with 29 points, 9 rebounds, and 13 assists, despite the team shooting 40% collectively. He was hitting guys for good looks and they couldn't capitalize. He was double-teamed most of the night and was forced to give up the ball, and his teammates couldn't get anything to fall. The Cavs live and die by the 3 with this roster because outside of LeBron there are no playmakers that can hurt you.
I predict Cleveland will win game 3, just because they'll come out aggressive in trying to protect home court. I think LeBron finds a way to drop another 40 plus points and flirt with a triple-double. The Warriors are always primed for an off-night but if they play the same way they did in game 2, things could get worse for the Cavs. Hopefully, the role players hit shots, Kyle Korver gets some good looks and the defense is as solid as it was in game 1. If any of those aren't up to par, Cleveland will be down 3-0 and Golden State will be one win closer to a dynasty.
