Having the NBA Draft just on the horizon Thursday evening, many GM’s will have their rosters open for trade on the market. With the Philadelphia 76er’s having possession of the first overall pick, and Derrick Rose being traded to the New York Knicks, this off-season is brewing up to be one of the most action-packed off-season’s fans have seen in a long time. Although the NBA Finals was less than a week ago, many teams will be searching for the answer to be in the run for the 2017 NBA championship.
Derrick Rose, one of the most elite point guards in the NBA today, being traded to the New York Knicks surprised me once I heard the news. Although Rose recently has been battling injuries that have drastically affected his playing time on the court, I was sure he was about to make an amazing rebound to project the Chicago Bulls deep into the NBA Playoff’s next season. As devastating this may be to Rose fans everywhere, he might have been placed in the best position he could’ve asked for; playing alongside NBA All-star Carmelo Anthony. With Anthony’s elite inside pressure and Roses dominating presence as a point guard, the New York Knicks may be poised to be a top competitor for the 2017 season. This, of course, excludes trade rumors that would bring in another All-star NBA veteran, Dirk Nowitzki.
Let’s talk NBA Draft; who will be drafted first? My best guess is the 76er’s will look to go after Ben Simmons because he is the most elite player coming out of college, but my instinct tells me they should go after Brandon Ingram who is a small forward coming from Duke. There are many talented players in this year’s draft, but I also feel as if this class doesn’t have much star power to go along with its top players. Usually, the lottery picks include guys who helped win a NCAA Championship, but there are no players from Villanova even projected to go in the first round. Overall, I believe this year’s draft class may be a bit of trouble for teams looking for a franchise player.
But I’m not expert, and anything can happen after the Draft. Lebron James could find himself in free-agency, and Kevin Durant could end up going to the Golden State Warriors (let’s try to see Lebron stop that combination). Only time will tell at this point, and owners all across the league are hoping that their GM’s don’t crack under the immense pressure it takes to build a legendary team.
