The Warriors Are At Full Strength, Looks Like It's Time For Teams To Make A Trade

With the NBA trade deadline approaching, what teams will make significant moves to make their playoff push?

There are three primary timetables throughout the NBA season in terms of teams evaluating their team's talent and needs. The first is at the beginning of the season, when they get to see how their new free agent acquisitions mesh with the returning roster. The second is after the trade deadline, when sometimes fan favorites off the bench, role players and even big-name superstars end up on new teams and the team dynamics change. The third is after the buyout market, in which typically older players and rotational players are bought out by their team. These players could be considered "low-level free agents" that typically help round out the teams as they get closer to the end of the season.

With the trade deadline being so crucial to the evaluation of a team's roster, teams in title contention need to take this opportunity to pick a game changer/needle mover that's going to contribute to a playoff push while the non-competing teams simply use the trades to free up cap space and gain dump-able contracts.

This is the part where I throw out a bit of a trade deadline wish list. This wish list is going to consist of four to five players that I would like to see wearing another jersey, what team I would prefer them to end up on and why acquiring these players will improve both the player and the team they are going to. Let's get started.

1. Dennis Smith Jr. to the New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns or Orlando Magic

Now I know that is definitely more than one team, but there is a reason why all these teams should be vying for Smith Jr. Let's start with the Suns and the Magic, since those are the most obvious ones.

Right now, the Suns only have rookie, Elie Okobo, as their point guard right now, and he still requires so much development that they have been primarily running Devin Booker at point guard because of his knack for scoring the ball from the backcourt, something that is practically a must in the NBA. On the other side is the Orlando Magic. They mainly have an aging DJ Augustin who not only does not fit the timeline for their young core, but he also is not the type of ball handler that can create his own shot.

Both of these teams basically lack a point guard. Dennis Smith Jr. is a high flying point guard on the Mavericks that has been losing some shine since the arrival of rookie guard Luka Doncic.

The reason why I also chose the Knicks is they have not really had an above-the-rim superstar in their team's history. Now I am not guaranteeing that Smith Jr. will become a superstar, but with the glitz and glam of a big market like New York combined with his exciting ball handling and dunking ability, he has the chance to shine on a young team that needs a spark.

I also took into account fit on the team. Their second-year guard, Frank Ntilikina, is primarily an all-defense kind of player similar to Los Angeles Clippers guard Patrick Beverley. So to compliment a defensive guard that specializes in guarding ball handlers, why not pair him with a scoring guard like Smith Jr. who can provide the team with a scoring threat in the backcourt?

2. Kevin Love to the Utah Jazz

Honestly, Kevin Love just needs to get out of Cleveland. He's faced injury concerns that leave him off the court for a fraction of the season at a time, and he does not really fit the timeline for a team that is rebuilding (despite what the owner says). When healthy, Love is a second or third option on a contending team that provides the ability to stretch the floor and rebound at a high rate.

I chose the Jazz because right now, their main big men are Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert, guys who do not really put pressure on opposing bigs in terms of their scoring ability. Favors is more of a big body meant to grab board and Gobert provides an inside presence through his reach and shot blocking. By acquiring Love, the Jazz will receive another scoring option to go alongside Donovan Mitchell and Ricky Rubio. It definitely would be a gamble trade for the Jazz because they have to bank on Love being healthy, but if he is, the Jazz is going to be a real threat down the stretch.

3. Jabari Parker to Anywhere

As a Bulls fan, I must admit we swung and missed on this pickup. When we first got Parker, I thought it would be a great way to add even more scoring to an offense-heavy team to a position of need. Pairing him with Zach Lavine and Lauri Markkanen was suppose to give us the chance of having three capable 20 point scorers. Instead, Parker has been a shell of himself, spending more time riding the bench than providing quality minutes.

I'm not saying that he is not a good player, but he definitely does not fit the scheme that the Bulls are trying to run. We need athleticism, shooting, and veteran presence to put this team on the right track. A better coach would be nice too. But overall, he needs to go to a team that needs bench depth and scoring productivity from the wing position.

4. Bobby Portis to the Oklahoma City Thunder

Yes, I know it's another Bulls player, but this one is a little less selfish. This trade is actually beneficial for both the Thunder and Portis.

For the Thunder, they receive a guy currently averaging 12 PPG and 7 RPG who can be inserted into the big-man rotation along with Steven Adams and Nerlens Noel. Taking into consideration Noel and Portis' recent injuries, they are a big-man tandem off the bench that will probably split in minutes come playoff time. This could very beneficial for the Thunder in terms of the defense Noel brings and the offense Portis provides. For Portis, this gives him the opportunity to show his worth through contributing on a playoff team.

Ever since Portis got on the Bulls, he has been playing for a top-five lottery pick every season and it has actually diminished his ability to be a spark plug off the bench. By joining the Thunder's second unit, he could display his true capabilities while also being able to win.

5. Nikola Vucevic to the Sacramento Kings

With the Kings in playoff contention for the first time in years, being only two games out of the eighth spot and seven games out of first place, they need a boost to get them over the hump this season.

This season, Vucevic is a 20 PPG and 12 RPG double-double machine who has been flying under the radar since most focus on the Orlando Magic's young core. De'Arron Fox and Buddy Hield have been playing out of their minds this season, but they need a big man down low to give them a frontcourt scoring presence.

Similar to the Utah Jazz, the Kings only have bigs capable of playing defense and grabbing boards, making them a one-dimensional team. By acquiring Vucevic, they will get the best of both worlds by getting a player who can score at a high rate and still give you consistent rebounding. A week or so ago, there was talk of them trading for Enes Kanter from the Knicks, but I believe Vucevic is a better version of the player they see in Kanter.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
