Need energy? Well, my first piece of advice I'd give you is to stay away from those sugary energy drinks like Red Bull and Monster... there is a much healthier and more natural alternative out there. Substitute these products with this one antioxidant rich ingredient. Not only is it good for your health, it makes you feel energized and ready to take on the day, and you can use it in many different ways. I can honestly say I'm addicted!
...So, what is this magical ingredient?
It's called matcha.
Matcha is a special type of powder; ground up green tea leaves. Normally grown in Japan, it has numerous health benefits such as:
- Is packed with antioxidants
- Provides you with natural energy
- Aids in weight loss by boosting metabolism and burning calories
- Is rich in fiber, chlorophyll and vitamins
- Lowers cholesterol and blood sugar (MatchaSource)
Where can I get matcha?
You can purchase matcha in stores and online. The store I purchase my matcha from is Teavana. They have two different sized cannisters you can choose between.
What can I make with it?
Matcha can be used to make tea, lattes, baked goods, but my favorite way to use it is in smoothies! I make honey banana matcha smoothies. They're easy to make and taste delicious. Here's the recipe:
(Per serving):
1 banana
1/2 cup of ice
1 cup of milk of your preference (I prefer almond or soy milk)
Your own measurement of honey, depending on your sweet tooth!
1 teaspoon of matcha (Trust me, you do not need to load your smoothie up with matcha. Remember that is has caffeine in it! One teaspoon in your drink will do you good!)
Blend all the ingredients, and you have a tasty green smoothie.
