So much of our identity is found in the world, in our social media outlets, how our friends think of us, and what we perceive ourselves as. We start to invest in what others think of us and often forget that God looks at our hearts and not our outward appearance.
We live in a social media generation and it can be scary. People get so caught up in the process of posting a picture to get the most likes on Instagram, views on Snapchat, retweets on Twitter or likes on Facebook. Why are we like this? Instant gratification.
We desire the instant "like" someone gives us on a post, and it makes us feel good. We want the quickest statement of approval from our followers and friends.
Why do we need this "instant gratification" when we have a savior that died for us? The second we have this awesome feeling of a post getting a certain amount of likes is so small compared to the joyous life that awaits us once we invite Jesus to fill our hearts with his love and mercy.
You are not your past.
You are not the mistakes.
You are not the baggage you hold.
Do you want to know you who are? You are a child of God (1 John 3:1). You are forgiven and free (1 Peter 2:24, Galatians 5:1). You are a new creation (1 Corinthians 5:17). You are a masterpiece, fearfully and wonderfully made (Ephesians 2:10, Psalm 139:14).
We don't need the approval of this world because we have a God that fully desires us. He desires us right where we are, in our mess, in our pits, and in our own disapproval. And that is so awesome!
Our identity is not found of these earthly things, but in the hands of our loving and caring God.
