The amount of times someone can watch New Girl is unlimited. You just can’t ever get sick of Jess singing to herself, Winston’s unhealthy relationship with his cat, Nick’s awkward moonwalk, and Cece’s weird but cute relationship with Schmidt. But, most of all, you just can’t get enough of Schmidt in general.
If you’ve seen New Girl, you must know what I’m saying. There’s so many times you actually laugh out loud while binge-watching the series yet again when Schmidt just says the funniest things. Sure, it’s a little embarrassing when I’m in the library, supposed to be working, and Schmidt starts talking about his driving moccasins, the dislike he has for old people, and how his mom thought he was a girl for the first 13 years of his life. But, you’ve got to give credit where credit is due and Winston Schmidt deserves it.
From referring to his kimono as his “mono” to all of the flashbacks of fat Schmidt in college, we’ve all had to laugh at some point. His narcissism and unmatchable talent to lose things brought a lot of humor to the show. No one knows what’s coming when he walks into the loft living room and starts with, “Has anyone seen my…” Even though he is one of the funniest TV characters of all time, he can be extremely nice and loving. His bromance with Nick is incomparable and his real romance with Cece is just about the cutest thing ever. When push comes to shove, Schmidt would have done anything for his friends – like when he helps the hot mess that Jess is (but not without some critical comments.)
You can learn a lot of life lessons from Schmidt, even though he’s just a fictional character. He makes sure everyone knows when they’re wearing something weird, which American holidays are the “sexy ones”, and that manhood today is “about exfoliation, cheese courses, emotional honesty, and Paxil.” So, allow yourself to laugh out loud at about every single thing Schmidt says on New Girl because he truly is the funniest and you are definitely not alone in fangirling over him.
Well done, Max Greenfield. Thanks for the numerous laughs and the personal mantra, “Schmidt happens!”
