My Wonderful Long Weekend
Piscart

It has been a long time since I went home. It was after the first week of school. I was happy to see my family and spend time with them, but I realized that I will not see them until the next holiday. I wanted to explore the campus when half of the students were actually home for the weekend. After that weekend, I decided that I am not going back home. I had a lot to do on campus and I could not leave everything and go home. So for Colombus day, I was, '' I am going home for the long weekend''.

I was so excited and I could not wait because it was my church's 38th anniversary too. I knew that I was going to see all my friends at church. I also knew that I would be helping as I do every year and I always love doing it. I went back home on Friday night. When I got home, I knew I was out for too long and everything was strange to me. But I was happy to sleep again in my bed for three beautiful days.

When I woke up the next day, I was so excited because I was going to meet my friends from church and hang out with them. I spent the whole day hanging out with my little brother, and we talked about college; how it has been so far for me and things that I do at school. We talked about all the clubs that I am in, especially the glee club and chamber singers. We also talked about my passion for singing and my classes for this semester. Later that day, we went to church for choir practice and we helped set up for the next day like we always do every year. I stayed for choir practice, after that I stayed a little longer to help out for Sunday. My mother and I spent three to five hours helping out at the church. When we got home, we went straight to sleep so we can wake up early the next day for the church's anniversary. On Sunday morning, we wake at seven o' clock so we can get ready and make it in time for church. When we got ready, we went to church; my mother was going to minister with the choir so I went straight downstairs where the kids were sitting. I was happy to see most of my friends in the morning. Then the rest of them came at a later time -- they were so thrilled to see me and they were not expecting me. It felt good to see them and actually hang out with them for a whole day. After the service, they had food for everyone and places were they can sit and eat quietly. I was one of the helpers as always and I was happy to do that; it was also a good way for me to hang out with my friends.

The day went by fast and everything was great. After the celebration and after everyone left, my family and I stayed after to help clean up. We spent four hours cleaning; my friends and I made fun out of it. We joked around and hung out. I was so happy that I went home for this holiday because I spent all of my time with my family and friends; I felt like I was not away for a month and I felt satisfied that I talked to everyone, especially one of my best friends at church. I love having the opportunity to go home and meet with my family and friends and I cannot wait to go home for Thanksgiving.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
