10 Self-Care Activities I Do When I Need Some 'Me' Time

Take a moment for yourself.

Life can be stressful and can make you feel anxious at times, so it is important to have some go-to self-care methods. Here are my favorite ways to spend by myself.

1. Take a nap.

I love naps; however, I hardly ever take one. But when I feel very stressed, the first thing I do is take a nap because most of the time I am stressed, it is when I am exhausted.

2. Put on a face mask.

There is nothing better than a face mask to help calm you down. My go-to one is Yes To Cucumbers because it is cooling and has a nice, relaxing scent to it.

3. Watch YouTube.

YouTube is something I like to do when I need a mindless activity. When I don't want to put too much thought and focus on what I am doing, I put on YouTube and just let the videos autoplay.

4. Read.

But when I need an activity to help me focus, I always choose to read. My go-to book to read when I am stressed is usually something I have already read, in case I lose focus or don't want to finish the book later on.

5. Go to a coffee shop.

I enjoy this as a "me" time activity because I like to people watch as well as enjoy the sounds and smells a coffee shop has to offer. Sometimes silence is just too much, but a coffee shop offers a small amount of silence with soft music and background noise of people. Bonus: you get the great smell of coffee.

6. Go to the library.

But who doesn't like silence at times? That is why going to the library is on my list because when I need peace and quiet to think, read, or just browse for a new book, the library is a good way for me to spend some time by myself.

7. Listen to music.

Listening to music is probably the easiest form of self-care for me. That is because I have Spotify on my phone and laptop; and because listening to music is the most convenient form of self-care for me, I pay for the premium account. So, no matter what I am doing or where I am, if I feel the slightest overwhelmed or stressed, I always have my music.

8. Paint.

Painting has become one of my most favorite ways to spend time alone. I love to paint with watercolors the most, but no matter what I am painting with, there is a serenity that comes from painting. It is very relaxing.

9. Bake.

I have always baked when I am stressed; this method of self-care is my oldest method. I used to bake when I was stressed, even before I knew what self-care was. I like to bake because there is a structure to it, and when life feels chaotic and unstructured, baking gives a moment of control.

10. Organize my room.

Organizing my room is my least favorite method of self-care because I have a small room with a lot of junk, so I never have a place for everything. But the reason I add this to my list is that most of my stress happens when my room is unorganized. So, cleaning my room, although annoying, always makes me feel better once it is done.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
