We all have strange obsessions and I think that they need to be fully embraced. No shame. No apologies. Yes, sometimes these obsessions are almost too weird for the public to know about. But not anymore folks. So loud and proud let me tell you about my strange obsession: Shaquille O'Neil.
It all began when I saw a commercial for Goldbond foot cream. There Shaq was dancing his large heart out and I just couldn't help but hope it would play again. I decided right then and there that I would become the best of friends with Shaq. I mean seriously, such an extreme-size human would be the most interesting best friend ever. Imagine me walking down the street and Shaq coming from the other direction. When we meet we do a quick, unreal handshake and then part ways without sharing any words. Everyone around would be in awe because the coolest thing that has ever happened just happened right before their eyes.
I was officially a newly initiated Shaq fan. Naturally being the obnoxious social media user that I am, I started following him on everything I could. I read his Twitter bio "Preforms random acts of shaqness." Could life get any better? I laughed at his Instagrams daily. Unfortunately my friends got more and more annoyed, but being the loyal fan that I am I never let their annoyance stop me. To continue the strangeness of my obsession I bought some Shaq Soda drinks and kept them on my shelf purely to the anger of my roommate.
So there you have it folks. I have a strange obsession and I am fully embracing it. I hope that presenting my strange addiction helps others get over the oddities. I am here to say let's just embrace the weird.
Okay, now don't get the wrong idea. If your strange obsession is drugs or any other harmful thing, I am not telling you to embrace it. That's just poor choice making on your strange obsession. All I am trying to say here is that it is okay to like things just because you like them. If other people are giving you a hard time show them videos of Shaq dancing on TV and they will smile. Maybe not. But still I think that you should show them anyway because it is a real day brightener. So if people are giving you a hard time just let them, but know that you are secretly smarter than the lot of them. You know that your obsession is the best thing that has ever happened.
Once you can accept your weird loves I think you can also start accepting other people's too. So really by embracing yourself you can embrace other people. We are approaching Christmas and Thanksgiving season where everyone could use someone more love, so I don't think now would be too bad a time to make some new pals.
