My Strange Addiction Is Coffee And You Can't Make Me Change My Ways

So I have been addicted to coffee for probably the last three and a half years. There was a keurig in my household while I was in high school, and I would bring an occasional cup to school. Whenever I moved to Ole Miss, not only was I given a keurig as a graduation present, there were also three Starbucks on campus. Coffee was and is always at my fingertips. Here are some ways that I know I am in fact a coffee addict.

1. I always know exactly how much creamer I have in my fridge.

Yes, I am that person who freaks out when I notice my creamer is running low. I will make trips to Walmart or Kroger at 2 am because I wanted to make a cup of coffee to sip on while I studied but knew I wouldn’t have enough for the next day.

2. I’m pretty sure hell would freeze over before I run out of K-cups.

If I’m running low on coffee that is the first thing I buy over anything else. Forget essentials like frozen pizza, toothpaste, and toilet paper. If I don’t have coffee nothing else matters. Coffee is my essential.

3. I even have a separate bottle of creamer that I keep in the office.

On the bright side, I am that co-worker who shares her creamer and isn’t stingy about it. Another plus is that one of my boss’ favorite flavors is also my favorite flavor. It’s a win-win in that way.

4. If there is not a coffee in my hand whenever I leave my apartment, there will be.

Some days I don’t feel like making my own coffee in the morning, so I make sure to leave my apartment with enough time to stop by Starbucks or Einstein's to get some. Even if I am not doing anything remotely productive, I still drink coffee. I don’t even have to be thirsty or in need of energy.

5. I have a mini panic attack when the coffee pot is empty when I need another cup.

There are these times when I will need another cup of coffee while I’m working at my office job and there will be no coffee in the coffee pot. These are the times I dread the most. These are the times when I take it upon myself to brew another pot even if nobody else said they wanted any more coffee.

6. I constantly think about coffee.

I am always scheduling my day around when and where and how I will get my coffee. I think about how nice my next cup will be and when my next cup will happen. It’s a real problem.

7. Every coffee meme I see represents who I am as a person.

I haven’t seen a single one I couldn’t relate to. I am one of those people who doesn’t even have to tell the baristas at Starbucks my preferred order because they already know it. Coffee fuels my soul, and now everyone knows it because I am that “crazy coffee person.”

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
