6 Things My Pets Taught Me

I have learned a few things about what is most important in life from my pets.

I love my pets, they are my world. I currently have a cat named Misty and two bearded dragons, Onyx and Ninja. Humans often think we are the intelligent ones, but my pets have actually shown me a few things about what is most important in life. They seem to know how to enjoy their lives and be content. So here are 6 lessons they have taught me.

1. Relax and take it easy.

What's the point of being stressed? My cat sleeps all day and night, and she does not apologize for it. She knows how to relax, to curl up in a cozy blanket and doze off. My bearded dragons have also mastered the art of relaxation. Hours a day are spent basking under their heat lamp in their favorite spots. They have all realized that life is too precious to worry away, why not lie back and relax instead?

2. Enjoy your food and enjoy it often.

My animals love eating, and they aren't afraid to admit it or show off their happily satisfied tummies. My bearded dragons gladly eat 20 grubs in a meal and lick their lips for each one. And my cat, well she has us trained to give her 5 meals a day of fresh, canned tuna or beef cat food with a side of dry food and the occasional tuna flavored treat. Don't worry my pets aren't fat, but I don't think they are too worried about that, they just love to eat, then lounge, then eat some more.

3. But the most important thing is daily cuddles.

The most important thing my pets have taught me is we all need cuddles, and we need them every day. Us humans can tend to get busy and forget to have our daily cuddles sometimes, but my cat doesn't let that happen, she will pester us until we come to cuddle her for a good half hour straight. I mean, she doesn't like going to sleep unless she is curled up next to us. Even my bearded dragons love to cuddle, it keeps them extra warm, and they love it. Reptiles like their cuddles too. It shows you that all animals, humans, cats, lizards, we all need to curl up next to someone, it keeps us warm, makes us happy, and helps us sleep soundly. We need our daily cuddles to survive and thrive.

4. Even different species can be best friends.

My cat is my best friend, and I think I'm hers. We might be completely different species, we look different, we don't speak the same language, yet we are also alike in so many ways. As I mentioned, we both like eating, relaxing, and cuddling, so we don't really need to speak the same language because we understand each other and that's all we need to be best friends. There's something wonderful about being friends even though you look different and still finding that understanding.

5. Don't take life too seriously.

My cat is not a kitten anymore, but to her, there's no difference, she still lives like one. She doesn't forget to play, to get hyper and run around the house like a maniac, to wrestle us and chase dragonflies and lizards. Who said we had to grow up? Even adults can still play and have fun and be totally goofy like kids.

6. All you need is a good friend or two, and you're set.

My cat, my husband, and I are all best buds, and there's endless fun to be had with just us friends. My husband and I are my cat's favorite humans, and she loves hanging out with us every day and never gets bored of us, and we don't get bored of each other or her either. A good friend or two is all you need, and your world is complete, you never get bored, and you always have good company, and endless fun and cuddles. My bearded dragons are also buddies. They know how to love and enjoy the one they are with. I think I will do the same.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
