My Parents Were Right About You

And I should've listened.

My Parents Were Right About You

My parents were right about you from the start. From the moment they first knew you, they advised me against you. Then, crap hit the fan and you showed your true colors. I couldn't see it, but they could.

I'm speaking to all the friends I had in high school that my parents didn't like. You were bad influences. You brought out the worst in my attitude. I was too young to know the difference, but they knew. When society tells us that we are who we hang around, it's true.

I'm speaking to all the bad decisions I've ever made, and all the ones I haven't made. My parents were strict on me for a reason. It was all to keep me away from you. They know you. They've been there before. They have several years of life under their belts. They've been through more stuff, and they've made more decisions than me. They know a good decision from a bad one, and I need to truly listen to them.

I'm speaking to my education. My parents know how important it is that I have you. I never realized just how important you were until I was talking to a friend. Too many women are stuck in unhappy situations because they aren't financially able to leave. My education is my ticket out. Not only do I strive to make the world a better place, but I also strive to pave a path that will leave my head above the water.

I'm speaking to all the boyfriends I had that they didn't like. They knew it the moment they met you. Even if they never told me, I could tell they didn't like you. They could tell you were a bad dude and one that was no good for my heart. I didn't listen. I defended you anyways. Unfortunately, every single time, I got slapped in the face. I'm embarrassed that I didn't listen to them. Here I was thinking they were just overreacting. They were right. You didn't care about me. They knew I deserved better, and I could do better. They still love me, and they'll still be there for me at the end. So at the end when we finally part ways, and I go home because I realized just how right they were and begging them not to say 'I told you so', they'll grab me in their arms and hold me. They don't have to say a word. They know I knew they were right.

Our parents are put on this Earth for guidance. They are here to help lead us in the right direction so that this world will be a better place. When you get older and you realize how right they were all along, then you'll know that you had some awesome parents. I have the best parents in the world, and I'm super thankful that they were as strict as they were. They love me regardless of the terrible choices I make in life, and I don't know what I would do without their unfailing guidance.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
