My Message To The Haters Against Nike's New Plus Size Clothing Line

RecentlyNike introduced a new line of workout clothes dedicated to plus size customers and the internet freaked tf out.

Many internet haters used this opportunity to fat-shame, saying that Nike, a workout brand, should be promoting a healthy lifestyle by not providing clothes for people that are "unhealthy".

In my opinion, that may be the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. First of all, if you want people to be healthy wouldn’t you want to encourage overweight people to exercise and work toward a healthier lifestyle? Simply banning plus sized individuals from wearing clothes, yes CLOTHES, is insane. If you don’t personally wear or like plus sized clothes, don’t wear them. It’s really that simple.

If you really cared about obese people improving their health, you’d want them to have easy access to workout clothes. It’s not like people can just snap their fingers and lose weight overnight, and it’s very uncomfortable to exercise in regular clothes that are not meant for working out in. Nike is actually encouraging a healthy lifestyle and tapping into an ignored market by making workout clothes more accessible for those who want to make a change and get healthier.

Many people claim that they fat-shame people because they mean well and want them to be healthy, but that argument is invalid because studies have shown that fat-shaming has the opposite effect. Instead of taking your anger out on people who literally don’t need to hear your opinion ~at all~ you should be encouraging. If you have a friend that wants to get healthier, bring them to the gym with you or forward them some of your favorite healthy recipes.

Size is also not a direct correlation to health. Everyone has different body types, so one person’s healthy may be completely different to yours. Therefore, plenty of people wear plus sizes and are still healthy, so stop jumping to conclusions.

My last point is this, worry about yourself. I’m sorry internet haters, but I doubt that you’re perfect. Instead of being offended about other people and what they are wearing, you should work on being a little nicer.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
