This time of year, I usually contract quite the case of spring fever. My brain is tired of being in school, my body is tired of being inside, and I am just generally ready for a change of pace. I also begin to consider what I should be doing over the summer, and this brings around yet another issue: wanderlust.
If there’s one thing I absolutely love to do, it’s travel. There isn’t much on this planet that excites me more than packing my bags and gallivanting off into the wild blue yonder. I will go to almost any place and take almost any mode of transportation, but my favorite thing to do is go on a road trip.
A good old fashioned road trip is something that I feel gets overlooked in favor of flying. Don’t get me wrong; I love to fly, too. But there are many aspects of a road trip that you just can’t get when you take a plane. For one, it’s much more relaxing when you can hop in your own car and take your time. When you fly, you are on a strict flight schedule and sometimes have to deal with additional stressors when your flight times are moved or the flight is cancelled altogether. Secondly, driving allows you stop at as many places as you want to. While you’re driving between these places, you also get the opportunity to see many different small towns and all of the natural beauty along the way. You can also visit many national parks and nature areas that you can’t get to if you fly.
I have so many memories of going on road trips with my family, whether it’s a short weekend jaunt or a trek halfway across the country. The experience is something I’d never want to give up and I will never stop wanting to have.
