In the year 2011, a young Vanessa discovered a band by the name of One Direction. That is when it all started...
As a 12-year-old, I was new to the social media scene. I was still trying to figure out how to post a photo collage to Instagram with a caption along the lines of, "Summer vibes." In the midst of scrolling through the web, I found a song called "That's What Makes You Beautiful." I found the song to be quite catchy and immediately followed One Direction on all their platforms. I was hooked and learned the lyrics to all their songs by heart.
I'm pretty sure I dedicated a good chunk of my teen years fangirling over them. Oh, and of course, my boys 5 Seconds of Summer. I learned about in the summer of 2013, another addition to my fangirl story.

My walls were plastered in their posters and I proudly wore rubber bracelets with the names of all the band members. Looking back on it, as a now 20-year-old, it seemed a little strange. But... it was me. It was a part of the person I grew to be. I found pure joy and happiness from following the two bands on their journey and I wouldn't have changed a thing.
I can vividly remember losing my voice as I screamed the lyrics at my first concert. The One Direction tour of 2014, where 5SOS opened for them. Now that I'm older, the posters and magazines have made their way into my closet, safely tucked away, but the memories that came with it I will never forget. Once a fangirl, always a fangirl.
