My First Time Camping. To My Boyfriend: Thank You.

I am 22 and surprisingly have never been camping. My boyfriend took me for my birthday vacation and taught me so much during this little trip. I can't thank him enough and I cannot wait for our next vacation in 2 weeks!

My First Time Camping. To My Boyfriend: Thank You.
Melissa Stewart

I met my boyfriend about 6 months ago unexpectedly, and we hit it off immediately. So many laughs, so many lessons, so many memories, I simply can't imagine what my life would be like without him in it now! He is a very talented musician, cook, cuddler (haha), and creator. He is very unique in many ways, and one of those ways is camping! He is simply a pro.

This weekend him and I took our very first vacation together, and my first time camping, ever! Needless to say, I felt genuinely free. Exploring Allaire historic village with him, the nature center, learning how to pitch a tent, and use the oven out in the woods, was simply one of my very favorite memories with him. I learn so much from Nick everyday.

I have always wanted to go exploring the world with someone, but I really thought I would never meet "my person". That is all until he came along. We started going to different places, picnicking, drive-in movies, walking at parks, and even camping, and in 2 weeks- the Poconos! I am so excited.

On the drive home, the sun was setting and we were in his white pick up truck. I had my hand out the window against the wind letting it fly amongst it, and I honestly felt like this is what love truly is all about. I looked over at him and it warmed my heart. You spend time with the person you love, you allow them to teach you new things, take care of you, make you a stronger person. To my boyfriend, thank you. You showed me what true love is in such a short amount of time.

I never thought I would ever get the chance to go camping or be able to have a short little mini getaway with the love of my life, but he really did change it all for the better. We made eggs and bacon, had hotdogs and hamburgers, and basically just enjoyed each other's presence sitting in the camping chairs. The silence was soothing to me and the sun felt good against my skin. I could just throw my hair back, sunglasses on, and forget about everything for a while. It was a very peaceful aura, and I cannot fathom how much stress was lifted off of my shoulders.

This mini getaway with him taught me that life is so short and your money will return, so take that trip. Be with that person. Be happy. Be free. Our clocks are all ticking, so make it the best you can!

While we were on vacation, we got 2 admission tickets to enter the historic village of Allaire. We saw how the people from the 1800's lived there and visited the bakery store where we enjoyed some jam and cider. We then learned how iron was processed from the carpentry store and saw how the Blacksmiths made holders for the kitchen. All during this, I realized I found the one for me. Nick enjoyed every part of it and made it pleasant for me, he stuck by my side the entire time and never let go. That is my favorite memory of all.

I truly hope everyone finds true love and gets to travel with their person. I really never thought I would find mine, but boy, am I lucky!

To Nick, thank you so much for taking me away my first time camping and loving me unconditionally. I couldn't do it without you. You truly fill my heart with so much joy. Yours forever.

Here's to the Poconos, Niagara Falls, Maine and Salem, Massachusetts. I love you!

Love Always, Mel.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
