As Christmas came around the older I got, I always had a hard time coming up with a list when my mom or dad would ask for one. I wouldn't have a single clue what to put because what did I really need? I had all I could ask for really. Of course, my parents always insisted I make a list and even when I did my dad would always tell me it was too short. Why was it that I didn't know what I really wanted or why was it I couldn't come up with a list long enough for dad?
Being the oldest child, I was very independent and liked to do things my way. This is not a bad thing in this case. I remember Christmas alone before my sister, and then my brother. My mom and dad always made it a point to give to others. My giving to others started simple, just going shopping with Mom to buy Dad a gift and then going shopping with Dad to buy Mom a gift. Once my sister and brother came, same went for them. When I was younger, I did come up with gifts for my list a lot easier than I do now. Obviously, there is a reason for this.
Even when I was little, I always found more happiness and excitement seeing someone who I love on a special morning opening a gift from me. This seemed to stay with me the more I grew up.
Today, being in college like I said before, it is much harder to figure out what to ask for when your mom or dad asks. I feel like I have all I have and I am lucky for that.
With that being said, being able to give someone a gift and see their reaction of happiness, their face glowing, and so many other emotions is my favorite Christmas gift. I know it sounds very cliché, but it is true. When I was younger, I felt this way and I still do. It makes it even more special to me because I work for the money in my bank account to buy gifts for the ones I care about.
My favorite Christmas gift is the reactions I give people from giving them something. My heart becomes so warm and happy when I know I've made someone aware that they are special to me.
So ending sweet and simple, that is my favorite Christmas gift. What's yours?
